organising little lady's bedroom

It's September... Start of school again, and my daughters birthday -which also means family coming to our house. Which is a complete mess after the school holidays! I really needed to do something about it as I cant bear looking at the mess. I thought I'd start in the childrens's bedrooms as the floor could not be seen anymore and Little lady's version of tidying is stuffing everything under their bed. :)

this is the sight that greeted me when I opened her door! ARGHHHH! But I couldn't turn back it had to be done. I took a quick trip to my favourite place- IKEA and bought some of their Trofast storage boxes, set the boxes on little lady's bed ready to get in and sort it out.

I went through all the toys and threw away anything that was broken, had bits missing and anything she doesn't play with went into a box to go away.

EAch toy went into a box of similar toys..

dolls,
dolls accessories
princess and barbies
bags
littlest pet shop
my little ponys
houses and cars

Once all the boxes were full/or had stuff in. Out came my favourite gadget -my label maker :)

I labeled all the boxes and as she is just turned 5 - I will print pictures to put on the boxes .

Back to school organising!

Picture this...

It is 8.15 am - I need to get the kids ready to go to school... 'where's your bookbag?'
'I can only find one shoe'... these is a typical conversation that I found myself having last term and by the time we'd get to school I was stressed out before Id even started the day!
 So in my quest to get some organisation in my life, I have decided to start with back to school and organise school supplies.

On various blogs that I frequently visit I see organised areas... such as a breakfast station , coffee/tea stations (amazing but I just don't have the room.) However when I saw people with set places for their childrens school stuff - I knew I had to do it!

Now we don't have a huge hallway...but there is a gap at the bottom of the stairs where I could fit a couple of bits.

So I found 2 empty storage boxes, got my label maker, and both sets of school bags, shoes and lunch boxes......

Voila!!!

A new school station. In the boxes there will be their book bags, lunch boxes and shoes. If they have a library book, letters, pe kit etc to take in with them these will also be in here ready to go. 

Fingers crossed this will make getting ready in the morning a lot easier!! 

September.: This month I am....

Wow! I cannot believe September is here already! Its been a busy and fun 6 weeks while my two monkeys and hubster have been off school that now my house is completely upside down. 6 weeks off routine and thats it chaos reigns!!However we have had lots of fun, visiting castles, country parks, climbing over trees (sometimes up them) while geocaching so we know that we have all had agood summer holidays and can go back to school/work knowing that we have had a decent holiday!

Well , this month I will be tackling the mess this house is in. Baby girl starts school next week so I can finally start getting the house organised properly and will be updating the blog with progress :) .Room by room, a room a week I will be sorting, decluttering and organising.

Never thought I'd say I'm looking forward to cleaning and tidying!

Southampton Stampede!!!

We love the zoo, and little man is obsessed with anything to do with wildlife so living a 10 minute drive from Marwell zoo is brilliant for us.

When we found out they had launched a public art event around southampton to celebrate Marwell's 40th anniversary we knew that it would be a good challenge to set ourselves for the summer. There are 96 hand painted rhinos all around Southampton city centre and surrounding areas and there is a trail so you can find each one. All the rhinos have been painted by local artists, schools and colleges and are on display from the 13th July until 22nd September. Each rhino has also been sponsored by local businesses and councils so it really is a community project.

Today as we were out and about in Winchester we set ourselves the challenge of finding the 3 that are outside of Southampton city centre

and we did! we found one in Winchester (above) , one at the Ageasbowl  in Hedge end

and finally the one at the zoo itself. We downloaded the gorhinos! app on the iphone and logged the ones we found onto that. It lights up the ones that you have found so you can keep a progress record of the trail.

However you can download a trail guide from go rhinos for free and to get more information. If you are visiting Southampton this summer this is a definate must see/do. Cannot wait to find some more!! :) 

knights of the round table......

First day if the holidays...... And we have a big list to conquer - 

We sat down this morning and made a diagram of what we all wanted to do over the holidays and  This is the result :)

So we decided to do a trip to Winchester today to start the go rhinos trail  ( atrail of rhinos around Southampton) and to go and see the round table. Which will mark one of our things off and start our summer challenge to find all the rhinos around Southampton.

Winchester was our first stop and the weather was beautiful. We went straight up to the great hall and the queen Eleanor garden. 

The round table is huge!! It's amazing to believe that this was used by King Arthur and his knights and is only up the road from our house! ( motorway) 

Once we'd looked round the great hall we had lunch and I had the best sweet potato fries ever! 

We then started our go rhino challenge. There are 96 rhinos around Southampton and the challenge we have set ourselves is to find them all over the holiday! I will do a seperate post about this as I think it is an amazing idea! Anyway we found 3 today - here is our first find :)

I wont post pics  of them all as I dont want to ruin the surprise. Cant wait to do the rest.
